No more binkie for Zander

Well, I had planned all along that over Christmas break we'd take away the binkie. That way if he had crying spells at night the boys wouldn't have school the next day. At this point in time Zander and his binkie were very important for going to sleep. He had to have one in his mouth and just recently HAD to be holding one or TWO. Now this was only for sleep time. During the day he did not have one so it wasn't that bad. But that's when I decided enough is enough... especially when we had to do the house search for 3 binkies every night! I realized as I was getting him ready for his nap today that ~ it's Christmas break~ Sooo, I decided a different approach to taking away the binkie than I've done with Shane and Canberra. I just took those away one day. They were fine, no crying nothing. It was easy. Today, I cut the very tip off of them. When Zander aked for his binkie as I was holding him for his nap I took it out of my pocket and he put it right in his mouth and just as fast as he put it in, he took it out and said "broken" "Auh Oh, it is broken" I said. So I pulled the other one out and gave it to him, he didn't put it in his mouth, he just looked at it, wouldn't touch it like it was a snake or something, and said "broken too". I agreed with him and said, "garbage?" So he got off my lap and I handed him his two broken binkies (by the handle I may add... he didn't want anything to do with the wierd feeling tips anymore) and he walked those two binkies to the trash in the kitchen and dropped them in. No crying, nothing. So I held him for a few minutes on the rocking chair in his room and thought I'd sing him some songs. He just sat there on my lap holding his blanket against my chest. As I was singing he would randomly say "broken" and let me finish the song. He'd do that about 3 times each song. It was hilareous. You just knew he was thinking on that binkie! But he didn't cry at all. He just kept saying "broken" I tried so hard not to laugh! It almost made me cry I felt so sad for him that he was thinking on it that long quietly! I just had to hug him and kiss him. He took it like a man I'd say. Then I thought the whammy would come as I put him in his crib. I layed him down, covered him up and handed him his blanket and little boy baby doll. He just stared up at me and again... said "broken". "yes, binkies broken" I said again and kissed him goodnight. That was it. Done. No more binkie. Thank you scissors. And he got rid of them himself. I think that was a growing step for him. I am so proud of him. Haven't heard a peep out of him this entire time of typing... other than the random words... "broken" that I've only heard two times. Now... church tomorrow... that will be interesting. We did bring the binkie to church just to keep him quiet in sacrament meeting. So we may have to replace that with snacks.
